Fumes and Plumes – Madhuri Shekar

Synopsis
In the middle of an epic, ten-day long traffic jam on the Beijing Expressway, three Chinese truckers play gin by the roadside, as their trucks, and the millions of vehicles around them, languish at a complete standstill. In this suspension of time, hearts are set aflame, livelihoods are lost, and the bleak futility of a powerless life is realized.

Character Descriptions
CHING-WEI: a truck driver in his late thirties. Ching-Wei is wiry, tense, and filled with a nervous energy. He is practical and unsentimental, uninterested in philosophy. All he cares about is doing his work, getting paid, and supporting his family. He has a rather biting sense of humour, a certain bitterness about him.
GAO-MIN: a veteran truck driver in his late fifties. Gao-Min is paunchy, comfortable- almost complacent-but somehow has a God-like omniscient view of the present moment, and life as a whole. He is contemplative, philosophical, compassionate and oddly implacable-much to the irritation of the easily annoyed Ching-Wei.
HAN-FEI: a truck driver, still only a boy in his late teens. Bubbling over with the impossible optimism of youth, he could not be more different from the worldly (and world-weary) older truckers. He is fresh-faced, respectful, hopeful and madly in love with a woman he saw for two seconds.

I Love You More – Coral Chambers

Synopsis
I Love You More is based on actual events. Alice’s character is based on a woman who at the age of 4 contracted spinal meningitis, rendering her little body practically useless. Being her caregiver for the better part of three years, we spent a tremendous amount of time together. She was an exceptionally positive person, always looking for the good in everyone and everything. This play is a theatricalized account of my time as her caregiver. In the play, a personal aid (Chloe) meets and begins working with Alice. Through the action of the play, Chloe learns to understand Alice's difficult speech, unlocking both beautiful and heartbreaking stories of Alice's past. Ultimately, Chloe must bear witness to the end of Alice's journey on earth.

Character Descriptions
CHLOE is a woman in her early 30’s who’s been assigned to work with individuals with disabilities. She is gifted in the arts of compassion and humor; a perfect match for all who need a smile and a laugh.
ALICE is a beautiful woman in her early 70’s. While she is not mentally disabled, her lack of human interaction in her early years and her extremely crippled body hassled her learning throughout the years. She is exceptional positive and close to God.
