Irene Ryan Orientation Topics - Preliminary Round
1. Share the information you receive this morning with those who aren't here.
2. Do not miss your round! If you (or your partner) have a conflict with your scheduled time, let us know immediately so you can be rescheduled.
3. Check-in (Music Hall breezeway) 50 minutes before your scheduled audition round, to:
· Verify your Intent to Participate form info and evidence of registration (show badges for you and your partner - then store them away: DO NOT WEAR IN YOUR AUDITION!)
· Verify performance rights for your scene (bring name of rights holding company with you, if not already provided on Intent form; and any required written permission with you)
· Fill out response cards legibly: each nominee is required to complete five cards; ONLY YOUR FIRST ROUND PIECE INFO IS NEEDED!
· The remaining time before you audition is to warm up (in the Men's/Women's Chorus Rms)
4. Once checked in, let your Stage Manager know if you have to leave the area (for any reason). When it is time for your audition round, you will be asked to line up in order of presentation. While in the holding area, PLEASE REMAIN QUIET.
5. DO NOT GIVE YOUR SCHOOL NAME in your introduction/slate. Only introduce yourself, your partner, and the titles (and author(s) of your selections if you wish). Those who identify their school in their introduction/audition will be disqualified.
6. Timing. Your set-up and introduction is not timed, but be considerate of the room scheduling and adjudicators' needs - set up the space efficiently, then give your introduction. Timing begins when you begin "acting or interacting" and doesn't stop until you say "Thank you" or otherwise let them know you have finished. You are allowed brief time after your introduction to get into character, but while prepping don't look at your partner (could confuse the timer, who might think you have begun your audition).
A "3" sign will be held up by the timer at 3 minutes. At 3:15, the timer will stand up and say "TIME" or "STOP." If this occurs, you must stop immediately; at the preliminary round, you will not be disqualified for exceeding the time limit.

7. Please arrange your "set" QUICKLY and professionally, and don't bother striking afterwards, as the next scene will set up how they wish (we have to see 14 students each hour).
8. A Respondent will give you and your partner feedback on your audition in the hour immediately following your round - these will occur in the Lab Theater OR Eccles 155.
9. A list of nominees advanced to the semifinal round (occurring on Friday morning) will be posted by Thursday morning at 9am. The list will be posted at the festival registration area (Play House Lobby), and on call boards in the host hotel lobby.
10. If your name was misspelled on your certificate, please let us know!
Congratulations on your nomination, and the courage and work it took to get here.
